The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): an essential driving force for Siel Bleu throughout Europe
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs ) are a pillar for our Siel Bleu community. As an association committed to improving the health and well-being of vulnerable people, but also committed to the environment, these goals help guide our day-to-day actions.
But what are the SDGs?
-> The SDGs were defined by the United Nations in 2015. They consist of 17 ambitious goals, accompanied by 169 specific targets, aimed at guiding action for a better, more sustainable future by 2030.
These goals address crucial challenges such as poverty reduction, the promotion of health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, access to drinking water, climate action, and many other essential issues. Each SDG is therefore interconnected and contributes to building a more just, inclusive and sustainable world.
So, what does this have to do with Siel Bleu?
At Siel Bleu, we're also doing our best to help make the world a better place, which is why we regularly follow the recommendations of these SDGs! Here's a non-exhaustive list of the SDGs we're working on on a daily basis, along with a few figures:
Health and well-being (SDG n°3)
As a health-focused association, Siel Bleu is committed to improving the quality of life of vulnerable people, particularly senior citizens, through Adapted Physical Activity programs. These programs, delivered in all the countries where we are present, improve both the physical and mental health, and thus the well-being, of all those who follow our courses.
Gender equality (SDG n°5)
Our organizations strive to achieve gender balance within the workforce, and are committed to offering equal opportunities to all employees. In France, for example, we have a score of 89/100 for theprofessional equality index, and until recently we were at 99. The reason for this drop? We have more women in positions of responsibility than men! Of course we'd prefer to have perfect equality, but for once at least the ladies aren't at a disadvantage. Fundacioñ Siel Bleu in Spain is experiencing the same difficulties! In every country where we operate, we strive to guarantee equal rights and opportunities for both sexes.
Affordable, clean energy (SDG n°7)
Our organizations across Europe are striving to use hybrid cars wherever possible (Toyota is a long-standing partner in France, with hundreds of Yaris in Siel Bleu livery on the road), to reduce travel time between classes and thusincrease the efficiency of our service delivery in a sustainable way. Solutions for getting around by bike, although sometimes difficult to implement, are also being considered.
Decent work and economic growth (SDG n°8)
Siel Bleu favors internal recruitment, and a maximum pay gap of 1 in 3 between the lowest and highest salaries is applied across the board.
Reducing inequalities (SDG n°10)
Siel Bleu programs target marginalized populations such as the elderly and the disabled, reducing health inequalities and promoting social inclusion. By aligning ourselves with this SDG, we are working towards a society where everyone has the opportunity to participate actively in its life, whatever their age, gender or socio-economic status.
Sustainability and environmental impact (SDGs n°11 - 13)
The SDGs encourage environmentally friendly and sustainable practices. As a committed player, Siel Bleu recognizes the importance of protecting our planet and promoting sustainable lifestyles. As such, our Eco-Santé program helps our beneficiaries change their habits to make active mobility a philosophy!
All these Sustainable Development Goals are a valuable guide for Siel Bleu, reinforcing our commitments and pointing us in the right direction.
Today, Siel Bleu represents 870 professionals in Adapted Physical Activity for a total of 210,000 participants reached every week in 6 European countries, an ever-growing impact, and we will continue to work to improve the world of tomorrow and improve all these indicators that enable us all to set positive goals to achieve.
